About The Event

Join your Environment Committee for an evening of inspiration and learning from three local speakers who will share their knowledge, experience and passion about using native plants for gardening and habitat restoration. Each one of us can help counter climate change and habitat loss by planting even just a small garden of native flowers. Come and learn about how such a tiny effort can have such a big impact on restoring nature. This is a hybrid meeting.

Dr. Shelley Ball, biologist and CFUW Environment Chair will introduce us to why the preservation and restoration of native habitat is so critical and how we can each play a role in native habitat restoration in our own

backyards.

Clara Misener is a grade 12 student from PDCI. Her interest in the environment and sustainability is reflected in her membership in the Suzuki Butterflyway Project – a volunteer-led movement that focuses on creating habitats for local bees and butterflies across Canada. Clara has been involved in this initiative, running a local chapter in Perth, since grade 9.

Chloe Lajoie, National Conservation Director at Watersheds Canada will speak about their Natural Edge program which is focused on restoring shoreline and agricultural buffers. Watersheds Canada is a registered charity that provides habitat restoration and education programs to shoreline property owners, community groups,

students, families, and municipalities across the country so they can protect their lakes, rivers, and shorelands.

This is a hybrid meeting, in person at the Royal Canadian Legion, 26 Beckwith Street, Perth. It is also available on ZOOM. If you would like to join via ZOOM, please email us for the pre-registration email. This talk is free and open to all members of the public.
