CFUW Perth & District currently has eight daytime book clubs and one evening club. Members meet monthly in rotating homes for snacks and a lively discussion about their selected novel.

Bridge-Lunch
The Bridge and Luncheon group meets on the third Friday of each month, at 11:30 with social time followed by a delicious lunch provided by the host, then followed by three rounds of bridge. Presently there are 9 members. All skill levels welcome. Players must be fully vaccinated. We currently need spares. If there is enough interest, a second group can be started.

Bridge-Social
Social Bridge is an informal and great way to spend an afternoon. All levels welcome. We play on alternative weeks, with members hosting a table in rotation. A light snack is usually served. Depending on numbers there may be multiple tables per session in different people’s homes. If you are not able to commit to alternative weeks, spares are welcome. As an alternative to playing in person, a group may choose to play remotely via BBO.

Business/Working Women's Dinner Club *NEW*
This group would meet one evening per month at a rotation of local restaurants to share experiences, network, talk about communications, human resources, marketing, social media, pros and cons/challenges about being a professional woman. Business speakers from outside the group might be invited to attend. We have many members who run, manage or work for local businesses or public sector establishments; this new Interest Group could provide a supportive community forum. Group members would rotate coordinating reservations and determining topics.

Cycling Sisters
Come join a cycling group to ride trails, cottage roads and as little highway as possible (only if there is a hard shoulder to ride on). Areas vary from Murphy’s Point, Smiths Falls, Carleton Place, Almonte …trails including the Trans Canada Trails; also some of our favourite paths through Ottawa and Gatineau. This summer we had a fabulous 2-night stay in Mont-Tremblant! We meet Tuesday mornings @ 10:00 weather permitting and some possible changes for special locations.

Dog Walking
This group meets in dog friendly locations to walk dogs and socialize. Until a coordinator comes forward Maida Murray has agreed to host dog walkers on her property. At this time the group will meet at Maida’s on Friday at 1:00 pm.

Finger Food Potluck Club
Looking to socialize in a relaxed setting? Join us and enjoy good food and interesting conversations. Members and their partners/spouses meet once per month, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on the third Friday of the month between April and November. Members contribute one sweet or savoury finger food dish and provide their own beverages. Dress is casual, and the event may be held indoors or outdoors, depending on the weather and the time of year. The hostess sets the maximum number of attendees for each gathering, usually between 16 and 24

French Conversation
This group meets monthly in members’ homes on the 3rd Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm to discuss various topics in French. Members should have some French fluency, although it is expected that some members may be rusty without practice. Come out to a meeting to decide if this group is for you! New members always welcome.

Friday Afternoon at the Movies *NEW*
Join fellow members to watch TIFF films on selected Fridays at 2pm at the Studio Theatre. Then head to a different restaurant for drinks and discussion. Movie tickets are $12.00 each and films run once a month from October to May.

Gardening Club *NEW*
The Gardening Interest Group brings together members with a love of gardening. The monthly meetings include topics such as garden planning, challenges like shade and full sun gardens, and sharing tips and advice on both indoor and outdoor plants and gardens. Activities will include garden tours, perennial exchanges etc.

Gourmet Club
Do you like to cook and enjoy trying new recipes? Give the Gourmet Club a try. We meet monthly at different host homes, with dinner party sizes in groups of 8. Each member contributes to a planned menu; costs are shared. Bring a partner/guest of your choice. Spares are greatly needed. Dinners are the second Saturday of the month, starting at 6:00 p.m. Remember we may called the ‘Gourmet Club’ but it is really all about yummy food shared by a group of folks.

Hand Drums and Percussion
NEW members needed! Try your hand at drumming and percussion instruments in a relaxed social setting. Create music with African hand drums, or percussion (rattles, shakers, bells and more). Intrepid Hikers
Members signing up for this group need to be fit and have a good pair of hiking boots, appropriate clothing, and a hiking pole (optional). The club meets every Thursday at Conlon Farms for departure by carpool to various pre-determined trails. The hike lasts about 1.5 hrs. In the winter members might use snowshoes or ice grippers, if necessary. Coffee/lunch at a local restaurant may follow the hike.

Let’s play American Mah Jongg, in the safety and comfort of our homes or while away from our home! We meet online, twice per month using RealMahJongg.com. (subscription needed, computer or tablet recommended). Dates and times are flexible. The app is a great way to play, practice, and improve your game as you can play against your CFUW mates, other gaming app members or robots.

Mah Jongg — Experienced American
This group is for experienced players who are familiar with the game and the 2022 card. This group meets in person on Wednesdays at 6:45 pm, rotating hosting games at their homes. Existing members have bought subscriptions to Real Mah Jongg so that can play online as well as meeting in person. New members are welcome!

Mah Jongg-Introduction to American
Individual or group lessons taught on a as needed basis. Learn a new, challenging game that will tickle your brain. Mah Jongg is a traditional Chinese game, similar to Rummy, played by 4. The players pick up and discard tiles until they use their 14 tiles to complete one of 67 possible hands. The game is one of skill, strategy and luck! It’s also addictive!

Out and About
If you enjoy an “Outing” — something to see, to learn, to enjoy, to explore plus the all-important lunch and fellowship, join the Out and About Club. Our monthly outings are within a radius of approx.100 km during daylight hours. Location and cost information sent in advance; carpooling encouraged. Outings take place on the 2nd Wednesday of October, November, February, April and May.

Did you take piano lessons as a child or teenager? Do you want to revive your skills, or just play at whatever level you may be? Do you want to get over your piano shyness? Come join the Piano Club to play duets, or solos, simple or not, and listen to the others. The only requirement is to have fun and enjoy playing the piano! Piano sessions are at the home of Diana B. on an upright grand. We meet the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 10:00 am.

Spanish-Intermediate
The next time you travel to a Spanish speaking country, if you would like to be able to converse a bit with the local residents, then join us and Johana, our Spanish instructor, who is a native of Colombia. We do review grammar, but we speak in Spanish as much as possible, learning about traditions, and discussing current events, history and food, with Johana taking the lead. For the intermediate classes, those with some Spanish background are welcome. The cost is $17 per session. Classes will start on September 13, 2022 and are usually held twice per month. (Tuesday mornings from 10 am to 12noon). The venue will either be at a member’s house or via Zoom, depending on weather and COVID requirements.

Stitch n' Chat
Whether you are a knitter, a quilter, a novice cross-stitcher or simply have some mending to do, this is a fun group for you. Everyone enjoys relaxing for a couple of hours, working on their piece while sharing conversation on a variety of topics. The group meets every 1st and 3rd Thursdays from 10:00 am to 12 noon. Participants take turns to host in their homes and light refreshments are served.
